Alright, getting back into the swing of things. Who’s ready to see some of the adorable crochet items I’ve been making over the summer? I’ve been busy… I have 4 new hat designs, and I’m still working on a couple more! Plus, I’m hoping to have time to make a few smaller crochet crafts within the next couple weeks. I really think that scaling back on the # of orders I take has rejuvenated my love for this craft.

Alright… on to the cutness!

First up,  this precious giraffe set that my friend, Kristen, commissioned me to make for her new baby boy 🙂

And, just yesterday, the photographer posted the sneak peaks of his newborn session, and has given me permission to post the picture with the giraffe set here 🙂 How freakin’ adorable is this?!?!

I also made a girl version of this set… same thing, just added a pink crochet bow. I gave it to another good photographer friend, and I’ll post pics of that as soon as she has them ready 🙂

Really this project should have been complete back in January! I feel awful that it took me so long. My husband got this order for me. It’s for one of his costumers. HIS plan was to give me the order, then collect the money when he gave her the hat. But here’s the thing:

He kept telling me, “don’t worry, it’s no rush”…. UGH! Way to mess with my brain. I am VERY used to working under a deadline, and the thing that usually keeps the pressure on me is that I have my costumer’s money up front, so I know that I need to deliver, and fast. Not having the money up front, just makes it feel like it’s not a real order in my mind. And that’s bad! Then my husband telling me not to rush, just makes it feel like even less of a real order. So, I kept pushing this hat farther and farther down my order list….

And now it’s 4 months later, and I have only JUST finished it! God, it makes me feel so unprofessional! I can’t believe I let it slip that far 😦

In any event, it’s done now… And it’s pretty cool, if I do say so myself.

Princess Crown March 27, 2012

I have a lot (and I mean a LOT) of friends that do photography, and these little crochet crowns seem to be pretty popular right now for newborn photographers. I think they’re super cute! Plus, I have a little 2 year old princess that I love to make things for 🙂 Then, yesterday I came across this link on Pintrest where the lady used some generic lace to create crowns for her daughter’s party. Her’s were really cute… AND they were for older kids! So, right then, I stopped what I was doing and HAD to make one for Elia, my daughter!

Now, I didn’t have any lace, but I decided to improvise a pattern for a crown anyway. Then I covered it in glitter glue… because my princess loves things that sparkle. I let it dry for about 30 min. then brushed on a layer of Mod Podge and let it dry over night. Really, the Mod Podge it’s NECESSARY if you’re making a fairly short crown…. As long as your tension is tight enough, the points should stand on their own. BUT, I like the Mod Podge element because it stiffens the crown into a circle, and I think that just makes things easier.

I think it turned out pretty cute for a first attempt!

Now, keep in mind that I was working pretty fast because, once I get an idea in my head, I want to see it RIGHT AWAY! LOL.   Here are some pictures of Elia in the crown… She was very excited about it!

I think I’m going to come up with some other patterns and sell these in my shop for about $10 + shipping. Do you guys think that sounds like a fair price? I’m always looking for feedback!

My Sunday-Fun-Day Craft March 19, 2012

I’ve been seeing this Easter Egg Garland all over Pintrest lately, and thought it was really pretty. So, yesterday I had a little free time, and decided to give it a try.

Now, if you know me at all, you know that I don’t work very well with instructions/patterns/tutorials when it comes to creative projects. I did not even read what the lady wrote in her blog about this, until just now when I grabbed the link to give credit. I just decided that it looked easy enough from the pin, and went for it. I have a TON of scrap yarn lying around (what good crocheting girl doesn’t?!), and I’m a sucker for Mod Podge, so those were my materials of choice, but I think the rest was pretty much the same. So here’s what you need:

Water Balloons (filled with air, NOT water)

Some sort of string (yarn, crochet thread, embroidery floss, etc)

Some sort of strong glue… I used Mod Podge and watered it down a bit.

More string (to hang the “eggs” on)

Drop clothes/ newspaper/ old sheets (this is a MESSY craft!)

Sewing needle

After everything was assembled, the hard part was over. I covered my work surface and the floor where I hung the balloons to dry . Then I dipped the string into the glue mixture, and began wrapping it around the balloons. Some I uses a lot of string, and some I used less… I like both looks. Once I finished wrapping one balloon I would hang it up to dry by threading the knot of the balloon onto some crochet thread. I did this for all the balloons, then let them dry over night.

Once they were dry, I popped the balloons with a sewing needle, and strung them up on crochet thread. I think they look wonderfully festive  for Easter:) And I’m planning to make some more to sit out in a dish.

Oh! And I even made this little collage for all you Pintrest users out there 🙂

…I can do better!

LOL… but seriously. ;P

So, I was going to wait until after I gave these items to my customer/friend before posting, but…. that got delayed and I just can’t wait any longer! Check out this cute newborn set:

Those little loafer booties were a special request that my friend found on Etsy and asked me to make for her. I love getting orders like that…. because, secretly, I think I can make cuter stuff than most the sellers on Etsy. I have a similar order that someone just put in… An adorable hat that they found on another site, and now I get to make it 🙂 I hope my fans know that I can make more than what I have pictured on my page. And I LOVe to try new things. I can make just about anything… I just need you to place an order so I can fund the project!

Just some things February 24, 2012

Wow, it’s been 2 weeks since I last posted a blog entry! I’ve been slacking. Sorry about that!

In my defense, the past 2 weeks have been crazy. Valentine’s week is is one of the busiest weeks of the year at my husband’s work. And since Valentine’s Day fell on a Tuesday this year, that means “Valentine’s Week” actually lasted for 2 weeks this year! Hubby was working CRAZY hours (3am-9pm) for 12 days straight, so I didn’t have much kid-free time to post blogs :/

BUT, I have been working 🙂 Since I last posted, I have finished that Blue’s Clues hat I was working on, plus another Blue’s Clue’s hat, a newborn mohawk hat, a couple OOAK headbands, and an adorable diaper cover 🙂 And I still have a couple orders to complete over the next few days.

The Diaper Cover:

The OOAK (one of a kind) Head Bands:

In addition to that, I’m only 22 “Likes” away from reach 500 Facebook fans! Woot-woot! I’m going to do some sort of give-away once I get there. So keep sharing my page 🙂

The new line is complete! February 9, 2012

I finally finished the new line… Well, actually I finished it a few days ago, but I finally took pictures of everything today 🙂 Here it is. Let me know what you think!!!

And that’s it. What do you think?

The new line still needs an official name. I’m leaning towards “Whimsey Couture” , but I’m not sure. If you guys give me some more ideas I’ll put it to a vote!
