Wow! Has it really been almost 8 months since I updated this blog?!? Shame on me! There is no excuse. I will try to be better, and get back to posting weekly… or at least bi-weekly.

Lately, life has been CRAZY! My husband got a nice promotion at work… but it requires us to move. I’m currently finishing up my last order before packing up all my yarn. Then it will be packing, packing, cleaning, and more packing until it’s time to move….. then unpacking, unpacking, cleaning, and unpacking once we’ve gotten to our new home. I’m both excited and nervous about this new chapter of my family’s life. We’re only moving about 3 hours away from where we are now, so it’s not too terribly far from all our family here., but it’s still enough to be a big change!

We’ve lived in our current house for 7 years… Let me tell you, 7 years of stuff really adds up. I wish I wasn’t such a pack-rat! I think I have more stuff in our sell/donate pile than stuff I plan on taking with us! Anyone have any good tips for packing/purging/organizing? This is our first BIG move as a family! I feel so stressed out by the shear amount of stuff there is to get done in time!… Oh, did I mention that we’re hoping to be moved in 3 weeks, and I only have 6 boxes backed so far?!? I. Am. FREAKING! OUT!

So… All of that to say, “Crochet and other crafts are on hold for a few weeks.” Not sure what I will share on the blog in the mean time- Shoot me ideas if you have some!- but I AM DETERMINED to get this blog active again!

Craft Fair Frenzy! September 28, 2012

Wow, it’s been almost a whole month since I last posted! I really suck at this blog thing, huh?

Well, like I said in my last post, things suddenly got really crazy at the end of August! I had to stop taking orders on Sept. 14th so that I would have time to work on stuff for the 2 craft shows I’m doing this year. I finally finish all my “Paid” orders, and just have 1 more item to mail. Now, I’m in a craft fair frenzy to get enough product finished in time for the shows!

I am, making a lot of new, not-even-available-on-my-facebook-page items for the shows! If you’re local (Jacksonville/Orange Park, FL), I HIGHLY recommend that you come out and see me at  the 30th Annual Orange Park Fall Festival and/or The 5th Annual Oakleaf Fall Festival! I’ll have items for the whole family! I also got a credit card reader for my phone, so now I’ll be able to accept credit/debit cards instead of just cash!

I’m doing the festivals with 2 great friends, and fellow crafty mamas, Amanda from Precious Bows, and Jahnae from This Hobby of Mine. I have to say, I LOVE sharing a booth for craft shows! We get to pool all our awesomeness to create 1 amazing booth… plus we get bathroom breaks 😉 We are going to rock it this time with our booth set-up! We have a “dress rehersal” coming up on the 11th, so hopefully I can post some pics of our booth and wow you all 🙂 In the mean time, let me know what you think of my new banner that I will be using at the shows!!!

Oh, it’s that time of year again. Everything was nice and calm, then, BAM! Last week of august, I get slammed with orders! I shouldn’t be surprised. This has happened every year I’ve been in business. It’s both validating and frustrating.  I love that my customers keep coming back to me (and referring their friends to me) year after year. It really makes me feel like I’m doing a good job, and make a quality product. But it also makes me so stressed when I have multiple orders that need to be filled. I hate when I get behind.

Plus, I have two craft fairs to get ready for!

Sometimes I wish I had a magic crochet fairy that could help me out… or at the very least, that I could get my husband to learn some basic stitches so he could help when it gets down to the wire. *Sigh* But I digress…. I am busy. I almost want to tell my customers that I’ll stop taking orders on ____ date  and resume after the craft shows., but hubby thinks I should take the orders since they’re guaranteed money, instead of focusing on the shows since I don’t know for sure how much (if any!) money I will make at those.

So, that’s what I’ve been up to this week… crocheting my fingers off. I do have some new products that I really want to post here, but I never find the time to take and upload the pictures. He’s to hoping that next week is slightly less stressful.

Alright, getting back into the swing of things. Who’s ready to see some of the adorable crochet items I’ve been making over the summer? I’ve been busy… I have 4 new hat designs, and I’m still working on a couple more! Plus, I’m hoping to have time to make a few smaller crochet crafts within the next couple weeks. I really think that scaling back on the # of orders I take has rejuvenated my love for this craft.

Alright… on to the cutness!

First up,  this precious giraffe set that my friend, Kristen, commissioned me to make for her new baby boy 🙂

And, just yesterday, the photographer posted the sneak peaks of his newborn session, and has given me permission to post the picture with the giraffe set here 🙂 How freakin’ adorable is this?!?!

I also made a girl version of this set… same thing, just added a pink crochet bow. I gave it to another good photographer friend, and I’ll post pics of that as soon as she has them ready 🙂

Sorry I haven’t updated in FOREVER and a day! The end of summer has been crazy for me! I was so sick all of July, then my mother-in-law came to visit at the beginning of August, then getting everything ready for the kids to go back to school… it’s been exhausting!

Well, my oldest started 1st grade yesterday, and my4 year old started Pre-K today… so, I’m back! I have sooo many cute new hats to show you guys, but first…. Check out my 3 cuties 🙂

I’m sick :( July 13, 2012

Filed under: Uncategorized — joyfulwhimsey @ 4:00 pm

I’m sick. I don’t want to be sitting at the computer right now, but I have to do something to keep me awake… Mommies don’t get sick days, afterall. My husband is sick too (he gave me this cold), and let me tell you, it is CHAOS when you have 3 young kids and both parents are sick! My house is a disaster! My yarn is all in tangles because my 2 year old likes to think she can crochet, and just stabs multiple skeins of yarn with a crochet hook. There are dishes piled high in the sink, and a never ending mountain of laundry. Plus I have 2 orders that I really need to finish ASAP!

I really hope this cold goes away soon! I have some cute new sets I want to show you! Plus my good friend is going to use some of my items for a newborn photo shoot she is doing tomorrow 🙂 So, as long as I’m on the mend, next week I should have several new posts for you 🙂

Mario Party : Decorations July 6, 2012

We’re finally at the end of this “Mario Party” series. I hope you’ve all enjoyed seeing  how I brought all these ideas together for my son’s party! He certainly enjoyed it 🙂 And, in the end, that’s what really matters to me.

To start with, hubby and I found this AWESOME 32-pc pack of gold star decorations, in the graduation section of Party City. Kyan really was born at the perfect time of year for this party, between the Easter eggs for the Yoshi Egg Hunt, and the graduation decor, we had no trouble at all finding what we wanted :). With the pack of stars, I took a Sharpie and drew on eyes to make them look like Mario Stars. Then we hung them from the ceiling all around the main party room.

This is what the room looked like the night before the party. We got red and blue streamers from Dollar Tree.

We also got these awesome gold star balloons from Dollar Tree, and I drew eyes on them as well 🙂

The “Mario Wall” was one of my favorite things… but I never got the time to set it up just the way I wanted.  My husband got these perfect size boxes from work, and I covered them with construction paper to make the “?” boxes. The Fire Flower is also made with just construction paper. The green pipes are just my bathroom trash bins with more construction paper wrapped around them… Basically, you need a LOT of construction paper to make this party happen!

This is what it looked like when the kids first came inside the house. Not VERY interesting, but unfortunately my house isn’t set up to enter through the main room. So we had the Boo Balloons out, and we set up a tunnel for them to crawl through to get get to the next room.

This is the laundry room… you have to pass through it to get to the kitchen and main room. It’s not very big… mostly just a hallway. So we hung blue sheets and taped on pictures of Cheep-cheeps and Bloopers and set up a bubble machine, so it was sort of like going through an underwater level.

When everyone came in, they were issued either a Princess crown or a Mario hat, and a Yoshi tongue.

We set up a “Favor Station” where the kids got to pick what they wanted from the question mark boxes and tunnels.

I think it all came together nicely on party day!!!!
