Blue’s Clues January 30, 2012

I thought I would have the new line complete by now….. but then I got a few orders. And I have to work on the things people PAY me for in order to fund the projects I want to work on.

Right now I’m working on a Blue’s Clues hat for a special soon-to-be 2 year old  that is having a Blue’s Clues party. Let me be honest here….I HATE making this hat. There are sooooooo many little pieces, and it takes so long to make everything, then soooo long to assemble everything. I love the finished product, but the process takes a toll on me!

This is my WIP (work in progress) right now. I’m hoping to make the spots and start attaching everything today, and hopefully it will be finished and ready to mail by tomorrow 🙂

And for those that haven’t seen, the finished product will look like this:

New Hats! January 24, 2012

As promised I have 2 new hats to post today! Yay!

First up, Lilac pixie bonnet with flows and lace. So sweet, and so soft! I know I keep saying this with each new hat, but this may actually be my favorite of the new line 🙂

Then we have this awesome sailor/nautical pixie bonnet. I’ve seen so much sailor/nautical clothing lately, I guess it’s the newest trend, and I love it… I couldn’t resist making a hat to match 🙂

Those are hats #9  and #10, folks! I’m working on 2 more, then the new line (without a name) will be complete!!!!! Yay! Let me know what you think 🙂

Icky Weather :/ January 23, 2012

Ugh! we have icky, foggy weather here in North East Florida this morning. I had planned on posting 2 new hats today, but the weather is just too gross to get any good pictures outside… and I HAVE to go outside to get decent pics because all I have is my little point and shoot digital camera.

But guess what?!?!

These will be hat designs # 9 and #10! Plus I’m already working on 2 other designs. After that, I think I’ll be ready to debute the new line on my FB page with prices!! Eeek!! I’m so excited to see what all my fans think! This new line was definitely what I needed to get me back to loving crochet again… I was getting burnt out of making a thousand Hello Kitty and Sock Monkey hats.

After, I’m finished with the new line, if I’m not busy with orders, I plan on starting my Upcycle project. I can’t wait to see what sort of things I can make with my thrift store finds 🙂 That will be a fun project!

Upcycling January 19, 2012

I didn’t work at all yesterday. I woke up with a terrible migraine. I blame the sudden weather change.  I spent most of yesterday laying on the couch and praying that my kids would behave. So, I didn’t get to blog about this yesterday, but what are your thoughts on “upcycled” hats?

For those that don’t know, I LOVE to thrift store shop. My husband and I joke that we wish Goodwill had a frequent shopper card of some sort since we’re there a MINIMUM of twice a week! Well, on Tuesday we went to both Joann’s AND Goodwill- It was awesome, perfect shopping day! At Joann’s I was looking at some clips from Laliberi that I think would be gorgeous on a hat. The problem is, those clips are EXPENSIVE! And, yes, I COULD make most of those things myself for slightly cheaper, but not much. I didn’t buy any of the clips, just my yarns, and some stems of silk flowers. Then we went to Goodwill, and I saw these:

I think these would be lovely on a hat! But then I was thinking, “would people be okay with used items on their hat?”, and they would obviously have to be one of a kind hats, as I can’t just go down to Goodwill and buy more. Then…. there’s the whole recycled yarn, that my ravelry pals have been talking about forever, and I’ve been dieing to try my hand at! Basically you buy sweaters at thrift stores, unravel them, and reuse the yarn. Some people re-dye the yarn too.

So, recycled yarns +  recycled broaches (and anything else I can find) = Upcycled hats.

What do you think? Do I have a market for that sort of thing?

Late night= 2 new hats!!! January 17, 2012

I just COULD NOT sleep! BUT, it’s good news because while I was up, I worked on 2 new hats for the new line (still working on a name, so keep the suggestions coming!). I was up until almost 2:30am. Everyone else was asleep, so it was the perfect time for me to work. I could actually FOCUS for a change! And I couldn’t be happier with the results of all that hard work 🙂

Now, I have said it before, and I feel the need to stress this once more: I am NOT a photographer. In fact I’m pretty disappointed in the way these pictures came out, but they’re the best I could do, and they got the approval of my personal FB friends.

This first one is actually my daughter’s size, and I TRIED so hard to get a decent picture of her wearing it… but, ugh!, was that ever a struggle! She’ll be 2 years old in a couple weeks, and this is an age where kids are old enough to RUN from you, and still to young to really follow directions. Hats off to anyone that is able to get GOOD pictures of toddlers, it’s a tough age! But I love the hat. I had Elia (daughter) in mind when I made it…. these colors look amazing on her and bring out her blue eyes. Plus, it’s soft, and sweet, ans whimsical…. yep, definitely and Elia hat.

Then this one… I just love this one. I STARTED this hat over a week ago, but stopped once I saw how BEAUTIFULLY the color combo was forming before my eyes. I ceased work until I could get to a craft store to buy a peacock feather, gold buttons, and gold ribbon…. It was one of those rare times that the project just “spoke to me” and told me what I needed to do to make it special 🙂

Okay… that’s all for today. Like I said, keep those name suggestions coming! I think I only have 2 names that I really like so far, and I’m not sold on either. Got to come up with something soon, the new line is almost complete!!!!!!!!!

It’s monday, and I’m back with more new items 🙂 Yay! I only have 2 for today. I would have a 3rd, but my lovely 2 and 3 year old decided to DESTROY the feather I was going to use 😦 So, now I have to make another craft store run. I’ve also got to buy more yarn to execute the few ideas I have rolling around in my head. The new line is inching closer to being complete each day!

Here’s another matching set of hats:

Now would you like a chance to win one of these 2 hats for free!!!!!! OT: My Diamond Candle January 14, 2012

Have you guys heard of Diamond Candles? I am in love! Someone pinned something about them on Pintrest, and now I’m obsessed!

Diamond Candles are natural soy candles that smell amazing. But the cool thing about Diamond Candles is that every candle has a hidden ring worth $10, $100, $1000, or $5,000!!!! How cool is that?!?!  And all the rings I’ve seen are gorgeous, even the $10 ones!

Sooooooo…… since my  birthday was yesterday, my husband ordered me a candle last week ( Yay! do a little happy dance :)). AND, the candle arrived in the mail yesterday… on my birthday! Awesome!

I was so excited! Luckily, my ring was near the top, so we only had to wait a couple of hours for the wax to get soft enough for me to dig the ring out. Yes, I DUG the ring out instead of waiting patiently for the wax to melt down low enough… I am not a patient person! I ended up with one of the cheap/fake rings, worth only about $10. It is still gorgeous! It’s a yellow gold band with a huge amethyst stone. And it actually fits my tiny fingers! That was, honestly, the one thing I was worried about… the rings come in all sizes and you never know what you’re going to get. Plus, amethyst is my daughter’s birthstone, so that’s kind of cool!

Photo collage of my FIRST Diamond Candle ring reveal:

Someone posted on the Diamond Candle Facebook page today that they got a $1000 ring out of the same sent candle as mine! Drat that could have been me, if hubby had only ordered just a bit sooner :/ So, go check them out, and let me know if you get a pricey ring, or even if you just love these candles as much as me. and I’ll be back with more crochet stuff on Monday 🙂
